How to fax from an Android phone
Android doesn't include a fax feature, and most people don't want a separate fax machine for the handful of times a year they need one. The good news is that a phone with a browser is enough. You create a PDF or image on the phone, upload it to a web-based fax service, and it's delivered to the recipient's fax machine as normal. In this fax-from-phone.com guide you'll learn the quickest ways to get documents ready on Android and how to send them from Chrome with FaxToFax.com.

Whichever route you take, open the file once before sending and swipe through every page. Blurry text, a missing page or a page turned sideways is much easier to fix on your phone than after the recipient calls to say they can't read it.
- It's on paper: many Android camera apps, including those on Samsung and Pixel phones, detect documents and offer a scan option that crops and flattens the page. The Google Drive app also has a Scan button under the plus (+) menu.
- It's an email attachment: open it in Gmail and tap the download icon. It will be saved to your Downloads folder.
- It's an email, web page or document you can view but not download: open the share or menu options, choose Print, then select Save as PDF as the printer. Android saves a PDF you can attach.
- It's a photo already in your gallery: you can attach a JPG or PNG directly, no conversion needed.
Set up a fax number
FaxToFax setup has four steps in the browser: enter your email, enter the one-time code you receive, pick a fax number, and activate. You can choose a local number in your area code or a toll-free number in the United States, and numbers are also available in Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
There's no password. Each sign-in uses a new one-time code sent to your email, and you can add two-step verification. If you already have a fax number with another provider, note that porting it to FaxToFax isn't available yet, so you'd be getting a new number.
Send your fax from Chrome
- Open Chrome, go to FaxToFax.com and sign in.
- Tap to start a new fax and choose your file. Android's file picker shows Downloads, Drive, Photos and other storage.
- Optionally add a cover page. You can upload your logo and save cover page templates for reuse.
- Enter the recipient's 10-digit fax number. Each number is confirmed before sending.
- Tap send, or schedule the fax for a later time up to 90 days ahead.
- Check the status: Delivered, In progress or Failed.
Receiving and storing faxes
When someone faxes your number, it lands in a private encrypted inbox you open in your browser. FaxToFax never emails your documents, which keeps sensitive faxes out of your mail. You'll get in-app alerts, and browser notifications if you allow them in Chrome.
Every delivered fax you send has a time-stamped delivery receipt saved with it. If a fax fails, it doesn't use any pages, so you can fix the number and try again at no cost.
Android tips
- Add a home screen shortcut from Chrome's menu for quick access. It's a browser shortcut, not an installed app.
- If a Google Drive file won't attach, make it available offline or download it first.
- For long scans, use Wi-Fi to speed up the upload.
- The guides on fax-from-phone.com include walkthroughs for W-9s, IRS documents and medical records requests.
